Developer David Esperalta designed the Small Editor application for all the users out there who need a simple, user friendly tool to use for their daily text editing needs. But as far as I see it, developers and programmers will get the most functionality out of Small Editor, not regular users who just want to edit TXT. That’s because Small Editor comes with features such as support for multiple programming languages, customizable syntax highlighters, advanced editing capabilities, and more.

The Small Editor installation file is close to 4MB in size. You can easily install the application on top of the following supported Windows editions: Windows XP, Windows 7, and Windows 8. The installation process is a standard procedure: download the aforementioned file, run it, click through a simple setup wizard.

Small Editor features a minimalist interface that can be customized. When I say minimalist I refer to the fact that there are no menus or buttons on the interface, everything is done with shortcuts or via the right click menu. From the Options menu you can access the following customization options: change the interface’s language (English and Spanish are supported), disable the Show Hints option, pick one of several themes. A preview window shows you how a selected theme looks like, thus making the selection process easier.

You wouldn’t guess it from the minimalist interface, but the simple truth of the matter is that Small Editor has a lot of functionality to offer. Here’s a quick look at its main features: supports more than a dozen programming languages, open as many tabs as you want, reopen your last session, customizable syntax highlighters, search and replace, export, print, and more.

Small Editor is not free, it is only free to try. You will be reminded of this fact every time you launch and every time you close the application.

Go get Small Editor if you’re looking for an editor that packs a lot of functionality under a minimalist, customizable interface.

Pros

English and Spanish are supported. Use themes to customize the minimalist interface. Everything is done with keyboard shortcuts and with the right click context menu. Numerous programming languages are supported.

Cons

Nag screen.
